Post Publicly from WordPress to Google+

I discovered that Jetpack Publicize wasn’t cross-posting to Google+ publicly.

Annoying because:

  1. I wanted it to and that’s not the default setting and I didn’t realize.
  2. Once a post is created in G+ the content may be edited but the privacy setting CANNOT.
  3. I couldn’t find the settings to fix it easily.

They are here if you log in to your Google+ account through Chrome on the iPad at least, probably in some other browsers too:

Go to settings (on top as of this writing) and find this entry:

Manage other apps & activity
You can control who sees your activity on Google+ and other apps you connect to.

Click the button below labeled:  Manage apps & +1’s on posts

That page defaults to Google, but click the Apps bar at the top.

That’s where I saw WordPress listed, next to the blue edit link.

Click there and choose your desired privacy setting. I chose Public rather that Extended, which is at the top but seems to mean your circles and those circles’s circles, not just anybody’s how finds you. Pick your own though.

And note that your will have to refer to my other post http://wp.me/s7wRqi-27 to even have this WordPress app listed in the first place, so do that and see if you can insert these critical instructions in the middle or have to do them after creating it. Let me know in a comment?

And I am going to post this and see if it goes “Public”, then deal with reposting my unnecessarily privacy locked posts from last month to G+.

P.S. Other post’s relevant text: you have to connect from WordPress, then go into Google+ settings, manage apps, and then allow the WordPress app to publish to people other than yourself.
